A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Imizamo Yethu on Sunday, June 7, following a targeted operation by City Law Enforcement officers.
According to ward councillor Roberto Quintas, officers conducted a sting operation in the community on Sunday morning, resulting in the arrest of a South African national on charges of dealing in drugs.
During the operation, officers seized 20 bankies of cocaine, 13 bankies of tik, 14 quarter mandrax tablets, seven half mandrax tablets and two full mandrax tablets. Law Enforcement officials also confiscated cash amounting to R2 330 found in the suspect’s possession. The money consisted of one R200 note, eight R100 notes, 18 R50 notes, 18 R20 notes and seven R10 notes.
Quintas praised the officers involved in the operation and their efforts to combat drug-related crime in the area.
“We salute our men and women in blue, who put their lives on the line to take those who poison our communities off our streets,” he said.
He added that drug dealing fuels addiction and contributes to broader social challenges within communities.
“When people peddle drugs in their own communities, they are peddling addiction, planting the seeds of crime, and nurturing a culture of abuse, assault and harm that leave many families watching their loved ones transformed into strangers,” said Quintas.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on charges relating to the possession and dealing of illegal drugs.
