During operations between 06:00 and 12:00 on 3 April, three search warrants were successfully executed in the Gelvandale area, resulting in one arrest for possession of mandrax. Officers also responded to reports of firearm pointing and shots fired in the same area, though both complaints were investigated and found to be without substance.
Seven Section 22 stop-and-search operations were conducted between Gelvandale and Algoa Park, with all targeted addresses either gang-affiliated or known drug distribution points.
The afternoon brought more significant results when a suspect tracing operation was conducted at 15:00 by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit Combat Team, the SANDF, and the Gelvandale Crime Prevention Unit in Helenvale. Three suspects were located and detained on murder and abduction charges, whilst a white Ford Bantam bakkie was seized as evidence.

The joint operations represent an intensified effort to combat organised crime in areas where gang activity has significantly impacted community safety. The collaboration between police and military forces demonstrates government’s commitment to restoring law and order in affected neighbourhoods.
Operations will continue across identified hotspots until safety and public order are fully restored, according to officials. The sustained approach aims to disrupt criminal networks and provide communities with relief from gang-related violence and drug trafficking.
