Five people, including the alleged gunman, have been arrested after a three-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded in a suspected gang-related attack in Kensington on Saturday 4 July.
Kensington Police Station commander Lt Col Nkosinathi Losini said officers arrested four of the suspect’s family members on Tuesday 7 July after investigations uncovered evidence that they had allegedly helped him evade arrest.
Losini said the suspected shooter was tracked down and arrested in Delft later on Tuesday.
According to Losini, the boy was in his mother’s arms at a tuckshop when a gunman opened fire.
The toddler, who was struck by two bullets in the upper body, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Losini said all five accused are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 9 July.
