A memorial concert celebrating the life and legacy of legendary South African jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim will be held at Artscape Theatre on Monday 29 June.
The composer and anti-apartheid activist died on Monday 15 June at the age of 91.
The special tribute event will bring several musicians and artists together to honour one of South Africa’s most revered cultural icons.
Some of Ibrahim’s most celebrated compositions are set to be performed, giving the audience an opportunity to reflect on his profound contribution to jazz, South African music and the global artistic landscape.
Organisers say the concert will celebrate a life dedicated to creativity, freedom and the unifying power of music, while paying tribute to melodies and rhythms that continue to inspire audiences around the world.

The concert will start at 19:00 and complimentary tickets are available through Webtickets, with a limit of two tickets per person, subject to availability.
Seating is limited and tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Marlene le Roux, Chief Executive Officer of Artscape, said Ibrahim’s passing marks the close of an “extraordinary chapter”.
“His music, with its distilled, disciplined, deeply spiritual sound, will continue to teach, heal and inspire for generations to come.
“On behalf of the Artscape Theatre Centre family, our board, staff and the broader arts community we serve, I extend our deepest condolences to Dr Ibrahim’s family, friends and collaborators across the world.”
