Four suspects were arrested by members of the Anti-Gang Unit during several operations conducted in crime hotspot areas across the Cape Metropole on Friday 1 May.

During the operations, officers searched three premises in Eltister Road, Lavender Hill.

Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said that at one of the premises, members discovered and confiscated a 9mm pistol with 61 rounds of ammunition. At another premises, they found a 38 Special revolver along with assorted ammunition.

“Three suspects aged 20, 24 and 28, were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 May on the mentioned charges,” said Twigg.

Hanover Park operation leads to further Anti-Gang Unit arrests in Cape Town

In another separate incident in Hanover Park, Twigg said members searched a premises in Athburg Walk, where they confiscated a 9mm pistol without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition.

He said a 29-year-old man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 May.
