CAPE TOWN – Firefighters swiftly contained a vegetation fire above Rasta Camp in Ocean View on Tuesday afternoon, preventing any injuries or damage to nearby property.
According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service, emergency teams received the call at 15:40 on 31 March reporting vegetation alight on the mountainside above the informal settlement.
Fire crews from Kommetjie, along with a strike team from Fish Hoek, were immediately dispatched to the scene to bring the blaze under control. Additional support came from 15 firefighters from CC Environmental Services, who assisted during the operation.
Fire contained
Carelse said firefighters worked efficiently to contain and extinguish the fire, despite the challenging terrain in the area. By 18:10, the blaze had been fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and has yet to be determined.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire as dry conditions continue to pose a risk in vegetation-dense areas.
