CAPE TOWN – Two local schools from Retreat and Heathfield were crowned for displaying great improvements in their matric results this year.
It was announced that both Heathfield High School and Crestway High School achieved one of their most dramatic educational transformations in the Western Cape, at this year’s National Senior Certificate Awards Ceremony, which was held today at the Premierโs official residence in Leeuwenhof on Thursday 29 January.

Last month, Heathfield High celebrated an 89,9% pass rate, showcasing a significant improvement compared to last yearโs 73,5% average (“Start study early, warn achievers”, People’s Post, 20 January 2026)
Heathfield High secured 67 Bachelor passes, 55 diplomas and 30 higher certificates.
This year Heathfield High earned the top five spot as one of the most improved school pass rates this year.
Crestway High School skyrocketing from the province’s lowest pass rate in 2023 to an impressive 84.5% pass rate for last year.
“Candidates increased their bachelorโs pass rate by over 30 percentage points between 2023 and 2025, and show no signs of slowing down in 2026. When I visited Crestway High School after the results were announced, some of the schoolโs current Grade 10s โ who are already referring to themselves as the Class of 2028 โ told me they have a clear message: ‘We are coming for Bishops!’ It is possible!,” said provincial education minister, David Maynier.
Heathfield High principal, Nadia Aanhuizen is beaming with pride for the Class of 2025.
“The school was acknowledged for its steady increase in pass rate from 2023 to 2025. They were fifth in the province.
It’s a moment to acknowledge diligence, vision and perseverance of educators and learners alike. Success breeds success, the award and the NSC results, have had a positive impact on staff and student body. Educators have communicated their targets to learners and parents and learners are buying into the vision of striving towards holistic excellence.
The Grade 12 intervention programme is going from strength to strength and attendance at classes is at 100%,” she said.
People’s Post tried contacting Crestway for comment but they could not respond before the time of publication.
