The learners seen getting stuck into the books in their new classroom library

CAPE TOWN-Perivale Primary School’s learners can look forward to enjoying the wonders of a book within the comforts of their classroom after the school launched its library initiative on Wednesday 12 November.

The campaign, funded and supported by The Principals Academy, provides every classroom with its own collection ranging from stories and fairytales to educational topics. The launch of classroom libraries aims to give easy access of reading materials for learners throughout the school day.

Nicolene Langner, the school spokesperson, said learners will be exposed to numerous educational topics, including “how a clock works” and “how many fish are in the sea”.

She praised the Principals Academy for making the initiative a success.

The Principals Academy Trust (PAT) was founded in October 2012 in collaboration with the University
of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.

They collaborated with UCTs Graduate School of Business to develop an executive management development programme targeting education managers in this school system and in improving the management and leadership skills of principals in dysfunctional schools who were serving
marginalised communities.

The Academy has achieved success and off offered support to schools are in the following areas: Lavender Hill, Lotus River, Retreat, Riversdale, Seawinds, Simon’s Town and Steenberg.

Fellow teacher Michelle Engel, the school’s reading champion, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s potential impact on learner development and progress.
