On Saturday (15 July) Mindful Practice in Paarl hosted an event for learners called Ignite Your Youthful Mind, in honour of Youth Day and giving back 67 minutes for Madiba month. Retired Springbok coach Peter de Villiers was the motivational speaker and Bronwen Bayman, founder of Mindful Practice, hosted the workshop. The event was attended by 22 learners from schools in Paarl: William Lloyd Primary, Dalweide Primary, Klein Nederburg Secondary, La Rochelle Girls’ High, Paarl Boys’ High and Think Digital Academy and Impact. The intention of the event was to motivate and inspire the youth. Baymen said Mindful Practice teaches an holistic approach to cultivating the mind through inner work. This includes how to manage anxiety using breath work, how to practise guided meditations and visualisations, build one’s confidence and process negative emotions. All the learners gave the event a high rating as they felt relaxed and empowered afterwards. “They felt acknowledged, understood and special,” Bayman added. “The idea is to run this as an annual event for schools in future.”Photo: Chantélle Hartebeest
