On Monday 17 January 183 605 vaccinations were given to date within the Drakenstein municipal area, and Cape Winelands District Health asks residents to make Covid-19 vaccination a top priority.

“Vaccination should not be an afterthought,” says Sr Roenell Balie, who supports the vaccine roll-out for Western Cape Health in the Cape Winelands.

“Getting vaccinated against Covid-19 should be a priority for every family so we save lives and can reclaim many of the opportunities the virus has robbed us of up to now.”

According to the weekly update on the Covid WhatsApp line from the National Department of Health over 82% of hospitalisations and deaths in the country during the fourth wave were people who had not been vaccinated. They say there were fewer hospitalisations among older people whose vaccination coverage is high. More people under 40 were hospitalised – this group’s vaccination coverage is low.
