The Cape Winelands District Flying Squad and police K9 Unit arrested three men with 80 kg dagga travelling on the N1 towards Cape Town in the early hours of Wednesday (24 January).
Paarl police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said the suspects, in a white Toyota Quantum, were stopped just outside the tunnel. “The three suspects attempted to flee, but were apprehended and 80 kg of dagga was found in their vehicle.”
The trio, Songezo Gcotyelwa, Thobile Madliki and Mkhonze Macupe, are believed to be from the Cape Metropole area. They appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Friday (26 January) on charges of drug dealing.
Du Plessis said the suspects were remanded into custody until their next appearance on 30 January.
