The District Netball League (DNL), proudly sponsored by ClemenGold, takes place from 4 to 6 February, as part of an ongoing effort to develop high performance players within the Western Cape.

Action is set to take place at the Woodmill Centre in Stellenbosch.

The District Netball League inaugural ranking tournament, held in March last year, saw teams split into A and B divisions.

Each of the teams – in both A and B divisions – are sponsored by a local business and will be promoted in the lead up and during the tournament.

Ramble Swifts, coached by legendary Bennie Saayman, will represent Paarl (Winelands) in the tournament. They will be in action in Division A.

The first ClemenGold District Netball League will follow a round robin format, then a relegation match and or finals to conclude the tournament.

“This new district weekend competition will become an add-on to the already existing Western Cape competitions and has been created for players to grow and showcase their talent,” said the President: Western Cape Netball Federation, Bennie Saayman.

“The fact that the participating district clubs will be supported by a sponsor is long overdue and extremely appreciated.”

ClemenGold commented that it is a brand that complements health and fitness and with a strong focus on women empowerment, netball is the perfect fit, most notably so because it has the greatest sport participation numbers for women in the country.

Players will not pay to play and DNL thanks First National Bank for the sponsorship of an impressive prize purse as well as the partnership of their projects and partnerships in place at grassroots level.

Successful relationships such as this serve as a stepping stone to the Netball South Africa vision of making the game fully professional.

The DNL serves as a stepping-stone for the talent identification required for all WC competitions.
