Three men accused of charges related to theft have been sentenced to prison in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court last week.
“Two accused, Byron Kulsen and Duwayne September, each received a six-year sentence, of which two have been suspended for a period of five years,” said Paarl police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis.
“The two convicted were charged with theft of a motor boat in June 2021.”
She added that the suspects stole the boat and trailer in Wellington, but were stopped by police officers in Paarl at a roadblock. The officers arrested them after becoming suspicious.
In a related case, the third accused, Tashwald Pietersen (31), received a seven-year sentence, of which two were suspended for five years after pleading guilty to theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.
“The suspect had stolen the vehicle that was parked outside a business in Paarl North, but was caught by the owner of the vehicle after the suspect had caused an accident in the Main Road.”
