Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (DPH) will once again host the “Walk to Remember” event on Saturday 21 May at the Arboretum in Paarl after two years’ absence from the calendar due to Covid-19.

The aim of the walk is to spread awareness of their palliative care service delivery and to assist the community with remembering and coming to terms with the loss of a special person.

The 3 km walk through the Paarl Arboretum creates the opportunity to take time to reflect on loved ones who have died.

Join the Drakenstein Hospice community to “say hello again” in the fresh air while celebrating the lives and significant relationships of special people in our lives.

It is free to take part in the “Walk to Remember”, but you can purchase a Remembrance Butterfly from Hospice House (109 Breda Street, Paarl) or at the Hospice Shop in Rembrandt Mall at a cost of R20. You can write a message on the butterfly and hang it on a tree in the path. The butterflies will be gathered after the walk by the hospice staff and placed on the remembrance tree at the entrance of the office.

Registration on the morning of the “Walk to Remember” starts at 09:30 and the walk starts at 11:00. The event will end at 13:00. The Paarl Lions Club will sell pancakes and there will be hamburgers and boerewors rolls for sale, but you are welcome to pack a picnic to enjoy after the walk.

DPH, which delivers a free palliative care service to the Drakenstein community, also celebrates its 31st birthday on the day of the walk.

An NGO dependent on support, the hospice appreciates any contribution, which may include donating to the shop, volunteering or financial support. If you would like to support Drakenstein Palliative Hospice you can donate to the BackaBuddy page https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/drakenstein-cpc., pledge a monthly donation as part of the Have-a-Heart for Hospice campaign or email Cathy at marketing@drakensteinhospice.org.za for more info on other ways to provide support.
