I read with interest in last week’s article in Paarl Post about pollution in the Berg River coming from the Paarl Waste Water Treatment Plant.
This should also highlight another problem coming from the waterworks.
I am not sure if the residents, more especially those who reside at Ward 16, close to Paarl Wastewater Treatment Plant and Mbekweni generally, have noticed the awful smell or odour we breathe, especially in the evening and sometimes during the day.
There is a cause for this; it is our strong assertion that someone somewhere, somehow, is not doing his or her job thoroughly.
Someone will have to answer for this. For it can’t be that it’s only in Mbekweni where we breathe this unbearable smell of aerobic gases! While water treatment plants in other parts of Drakenstein – for example near Val de Vie, also under the municipality – do not release such bad odours.
A full investigation must be done into the management at Paarl Waste Waterworks, particularly if results and general operating standards are indeed being flouted, because heads must roll!
