Shock as man fatally shot near primary school in Kayamandi

A 54-year-old man was brutally gunned down in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, on Friday (21 November) afternoon.

According to Sgt Wesley Twigg, Western Cape provincial police spokesperson, Stellenbosch police is investigating a case of murder following the shooting. The incident occurred around 13:10 at a primary school in Winnie Mandela Drive, Twigg confirmed.

NovaNews understands that the only primary school located on the identified road is Kayamandi Primary School. Since the fatal shooting took place, rumours have been circulating that the victim is the deputy principal of the school. When asked, Twigg did not confirm nor deny that the victim is the deputy principal.

“Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”

At the time of publishing, no suspects had been taken into custody.
