Members of the Rotary Club of Paarl helped to harvest vegetables in the food garden of the Mbeko Eco Club at Langabuya Primary School in Mbekweni on Mandela Day. Everybody lent a hand to prepare a hearty vegetable soup for the school’s 1 500 learners, and used the opportunity to plant three indigenous trees to commemorate the occasion. With some of the learners receiving cabbage and spinach from the garden are (from left) Paarl Rotary president Rudy Dupont, Thys Els of Veolia Water Management Services and Vincent Mteta of Mbeko Eco Club, who manages the food garden. The Mbeko Eco Club focuses on connecting learners to soil and biodiversity, to demonstrate the relationship between water conservation and food security. Foto:
