The historic town of Paarl is buzzing with new energy as a dynamic group of young change-makers officially launches the Rotaract Club of Paarl, a youth-led service club affiliated with the well-established Rotary Club of Paarl.

At the helm is Michelle Jacobs, a Grade 12 learner from Labori High School, whose vision and leadership have ignited a fresh movement of community-driven action. Jacobs serves as the founding president, supported by fellow board members Byron Klinker (Secretary) and Taz-Lynn Samuels (Treasurer), both equally passionate about social impact and local development.

Despite their youth, the leadership team is stepping boldly into service with a mission that tackles three critical focus areas: mental health awareness, environmental sustainability and the conservation of native South African plants.

The club has already started planning its first outreach projects, including recycling projects for schools in Paarl, mental health awareness campaigns and educational walks and workshops for the youth in local areas to raise awareness about threatened indigenous species.

“All of us at Paarl Rotaract are really excited for the steps forward,” says Klinker. “Especially doing it with like-minded youth in our community. We want our generation to become people’s people again, a young group of reliable individuals wanting a better future.”

The Rotaract Club of Paarl is open to all individuals aged 18 to 30 ywars, who are eager to lead with heart, serve with purpose, and connect with like-minded changemakers across South Africa and the world. As a proud part of the global Rotary family, the club offers young adults opportunities to grow their leadership skills, while making tangible contributions to their community.
