On 14 and 15 July Kyle Corbellari, a learner at Paarl Boys’ High, competed at the Durban Open/Elite Karate Championship. He won gold, winning 4-0 in the final. Only one point was scored against him in all his fights. At the Protea Awards gala dinner in Durban he was awarded his Protea colours for 2023. On Sunday 16 July he was announced as the top karateka in South Africa for his division to compete in the All Africa Champions held in Casablanca, Morocco, in August.
