Among the confiscated drugs in the Franschhoek joint operation, police counted 145 whole Mandrax tablets, 46 half Mandrax tablets, 78 quarter Mandrax tablets and finally, 149 g of tik.

Joint operations between law enforcement agencies in the Winelands District led to successful raids of drug houses followed by arrests of numerous suspects in Mbekweni and Franschhoek respectively.

A drug bust in Mbekweni featured in national news headlines when police pounced on a residence in H-block and confiscated 2,3 kg tik. The haul was valued at R575 000, says police spokesperson WO Nceba Vanqa.

“The suspect is a 40-year-old Nigerian national, Nonso Ndefo, who appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges for possession of drugs,” Vanqa detailed.

In an unrelated integrated operation between police, law enforcement, Stellenbosch Crime Intelligence and Paarl K9 Unit, several successful arrests were made in Franschhoek last week.

Police spokesperson for Franschhoek police, Sgt Marize Mentoor, said six houses were searched for illegal drug activities and dangerous weapons.

“Three persons were arrested on dealing charges, and one suspect was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon.

“Among the confiscated material, police counted 145 whole Mandrax tablets, 46 half Mandrax tablets, 78 quarter Mandrax tablets and finally, 149 g of tik,” Mentoor concluded.
