Two learners of the Frank Pietersen Music Centre are achieving great heights during these trying Covid-19 times.
Kyrah Adams, a percussion learner (xylophone and marimba) who is in gr.9 at Paarl Gimnasium, together with violinist Matthew Lamprecht (gr.7) from Paarl Boys’ Primary will be taking part and competing in three very prestigious music events.
After auditions held in April this year, Kyrah, who is a student of Annemie Nel, has been selected as one of 27 learners nationwide to take part in the National Youth Music Competition.
This is an annual event for High School learners between the ages of 14 and 19 years. It was started in 1984 and is intended to identify and promote the talents of young classical musicians and to expose them to the requirements of professional careers as soloists and orchestral musicians.
This prestigious competition will take place from 3 to 7 August at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow, over four competitive rounds.
All competitors take part in the first two rounds and from there selected learners go through to the third and final rounds.
The Music Centre will also be represented on Primary School level. The Samro/Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition for Primary School Learners would have celebrated its 32nd anniversary in 2020.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was cancelled. This year the competition will continue between 16 and 24 September also at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre.
This year the competition was extremely tough as 14 year olds who missed out in 2020 were allowed to compete as well. Matthew Lamprecht, a violin student of Inge Wittenberg, has been chosen as one of the competitors for this year’s competition.
The Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre will also be hosting their annual Concerto Festival on 5 November. This year will be the 24th consecutive year this event is presented and five Frank Pietersen learners auditioned for this prestigious event.
The Frank Pietersen Music Centre is proud to announce that both Kyrah and Matthew have been selected to perform as soloists with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra conducted by Liam Burden.
