The Paarl office of the department of home affairs is currently still only able to offer limited services due to damage caused by a fire in one of the offices last year.

The national department of home affairs ordered the office to shut down due to health and safety issues.

A temporary service station was then established outside the office, but only limited services can currently be offered.

The public is advised to make appointments before travelling to the office.

The office is also being inundated by persons wanting to register the births of their children 30 days after the birth of the child. The public is asked to please register their children at the time of their birth at the hospital, otherwise this takes up valuable home affairs time.

Government says about 566 000 identity documents remain uncollected at Home Affairs offices nationwide.

Also at the Paarl office of the department of home affairs, hundreds of uncollected ID cards wait for collection, as far back as 2018. The public is asked to please collect their IDs especially in the light of the upcoming general elections later this year. Without a valid identity document, you will not be abe to cast your vote.

The office hopes to be fully operational by the end of January.
