Paarl East police arrested a 41-year-old man for dealing in drugs and possession of presumably stolen property. The arrest comes after members of the Paarl East Crime Intelligence and Visible Police Unit (Vispol) led an intelligence operation on 6 January in Groenheuwel.

“On searching a house in Diane Street members seized dagga and Mandrax tablets, one firearm holster, one round of ammunition, two flat-screen television sets, a scale and an undisclosed amount of cash,” Paarl East police spokesperson Capt Basil Seekoei said. The suspect appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on 7 January.

A police vehicle was stoned during the operation, damaging one window. Lt Col Mzimkulu Jack, Paarl East Vispol head, condemned this behaviour.

“These types of actions will not deter us from doing our work and [we’ll] arrest those who want to destroy our community and sell drugs to our children. Those taking the law into their own hands will be arrested and brought before a court of law.”
