Reading Rademeyer’s reply to Saartjies letter on the exorbitant amount of development that is scarring the face of our valley, I am still trying to figure out the positive aspects the ex-councillor is trying to point out about all of this.
One aspect that is certainly not positive is the ridiculously high taxes and municipal rates residents of Drakenstein are currently paying. We are in fact saddled with some of the most punitive municipal rates and taxes in the country on our properties.
Rademeyer boasts about all the developments that bring a healthy income into the valley, including extra taxpayers. If that’s the case why are our taxes not becoming less, rather than more?
Is this to foot the bill for the almost 60% of Drakenstein residents who are not paying for services as well as the huge salaries the municipality pays itself, which are among the highest municipal salaries in the country?
