I travelled again to Paarl for the holidays to visit relatives.

Actually, we are all very happy with the area we live in, but there has been the same problem for years: noisy car races on Klein Drakenstein Road.

I blame the Drakenstein administration and traffic authorities for this.

You do not take this responsibility seriously and therefore neglect to protect the public. This is potentially harmful to residents caused by people who drive on the named road during the day, but especially at night with improper exhaust systems and at high speed.

Nobody stops these people, nobody protects the residents.

According to general regulations these vehicles, which cause an extraordinary amount of noise, have lost their operating licence and should be taken off the road by your traffic department and law-enforcement officers.

Who else is there to address?

I urge you, as those responsible, to correct this deplorable situation.

The establishment of a municipal administration and that of the a law-enforcement and traffic departement is a service to the public that one does not really have to demand, but which you are obliged to perform.

There should be no need for a request from the public’s side.

It is a shame that nothing has changed as regards to this matter for years, although it has been pointed out to you time and again.

As a guest in this country I feel comfortable, but it is a great pity that there has been no change with regards to the above mentioned matter. I expect you to take action now!
