Although firefighting resources were stretched due to the distance between incidents, teams managed to bring all blazes under control, according to the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM).
The three fires reported yesterday – in Waterval (outside Tulbagh), veld near the Wellington landfill site, and the Pearl Valley (not Val de Vie, as previously stated by CWDM) – have all been contained. Teams remain on site at Waterval and Paarl Valley for monitoring and mop-up operations.
The Wellington fire re-ignited late last night but was swiftly managed by Drakenstein Municipality.
Two new fires were also reported late yesterday. The first, outside Pniël, was contained by 01:30 this morning. The second, in the mountains above Zolani (outside Ashton), is limited to a small area high on a rocky ridge and is expected to burn itself out.

With hot weather and dry veld conditions expected over the coming days, the risk of wildland fires remains high, said the CWDM.
Residents are urged to report any veld fires immediately to their nearest authority or contact CWDM fire services on 021 887 4446.
