I would like to warn the residents of Paarl that people are walking about, knocking on doors and claiming they are programming people’s electricity prepaid boxes to enable them, especially pensioners, to qualify, to receive a discount on their electricity.
These are miscreants and crooks who should not be allowed entry into people’s houses.
I allowed them into my house and they robbed me of a computer and cellphone.
Residents should be wary of these thieves and, once again, think twice before letting people into their homes.
Please be on your guard!
A Drakenstein Municipality spokesperson’s response to this warning: Drakenstein Municipality can assure municipal customers in Drakenstein that their prepaid electricity meters have successfully been reset for TIDD purposes. The only meter audits currently being carried out by ONTEC, the Municipality’s service provider that is assisting with this process, are meter audits for low and zero purchases. These auditors must present the following when they require access to any property: 1 )An ID card displaying their photo, name and ID number, as well as the official logos of Drakenstein Municipality and ONTEC; and 2) A letter signed by the City Manager of Drakenstein Municipality, Dr JH Leibbrandt, containing two of our officials’ (Riaan Brandt and Charles Fortuin) names and contact numbers. No auditor should be granted access to a property if the above information cannot be provided. Throughout the prepaid meter auditing process our auditors were required to present this information prior to accessing properties, and the Municipality has been communicating widely and regularly about this process to the community.
