Another horrific death was reported in Mbekweni last Friday (2 May) when a man was found hanging from a tree in Drommedaris Street.

Police officers attended the scene around 11:30 when responding to a complaint about a person that was hanging in a tree in the area.

When officers arrived on scene, says spokesperson WO Nceba Vanqa, they saw man on his knees with his hands around a branch.

Detectives on scene identified the deceased as Sylvester Isaacs residing in the Drommedaris area.

“Both hands were tied with a rope. The person was naked while several bruises were visible on his body. The deceased also showed open wounds on his right leg,” Vanqa detailed.

Vanqa said that the man was certified dead by the pathologists on the scene.

Other police sources mentioned suspicions of this being a case in which a Bundu trial, also known as a kangaroo court, might have taken place. This is where the public take justice into their own hands, often leading to violence.

However, Vanqa denied such allegations.
