One man was killed and another seriously injured in a collision between two trucks at the intersection of the R44 and R45 outside Wellington.

The incident took place yesterday (23 August) around 13:00.

According to eyewitnesses a truck drove through red traffic lights and hit another. The errant truck was transporting building rubble from Paarl to the dump site in Wellington when the tragedy struck.

An eyewitness at nearby business premises described the crash as deafening, making the building shudder. “The truck transporting building or garden rubble was travelling from the direction of Paarl and apparently skipped the red traffic light, crashing into a much larger truck that was about to turn into the Malmesbury road from Wellington.”

According to emergency workers on the scene the person on the back of the smaller truck was killed on impact, while another in it was injured and taken to Paarl Hospital.

Police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
