A young man identified as Kama Mangolothi (18) was stabbed to death in the Langrug informal settlement in Franschhoek in the early hours of Sunday.

Franschhoek police spokesperson Sgt Marize Mentoor told Paarl Post a patrolling police officer was called to a scene after receiving reports of a stabbing incident around 03:30.

“On his arrival on the scene the officer found two men in the back seat of a car. One was holding the other who had lost consciousness. The medical services were contacted and, on arrival, declared the 18-year-old man dead.

“The deceased, Mangolothi, had sustained one stab wound to the chest and one above the left eye. His mother identified his body.”

Mentoor added the suspect handed himself over to Groot Drakenstein police and has appeared before the Paarl Magistrates’ Court.
