On Saturday 22 July residents of Paarl and surrounds can look forward to an evening of pizza, wine, friendship and a love of music at Boschenmeer Estate’s Winelands function venue when Luna Paige will be on stage.
She invited colleagues and friends in music – Shaun Johannes (bass player of note), Jonno Sweetman (one of Cape Town’s favourite drummers) and Nick Turner (fellow singer-songwriter, wingman and exemplary guitar player) – to join her on stage on this joyous occasion.
Paarl residents should take the opportunity to experience Paige’s live performance first-hand, as this is a rare occasion. She impresses audiences with her unique voice and the soulful delivery of her songs, which have been playlisted on multiple radio stations. She is also known as selecting the cream of the crop when it comes to the musicians sharing the stage with her.
Johannes is a bass player and musical director who has played with a diverse array of musicians and groups and featured in multiple successful musical productions since 1996. With a strong jazz foundation he has performed with artists such as Sarah Theron, Sonja Herholdt, Riana Nel, Brandon October, PJ Powers, Amanda Strydom and more. On occasion he’s shared the stage with Paige in productions such as Her Blues and Smeltkroes.
Sweetman is one of Cape Town’s most original and sensitive drummers. He’s backed an array of artists such as Gerald Clark, Karen Zoid, Albert Frost, Schalk Joubert and is respected in many a jazz circle too.
Sweetman has shared the stage with and recorded songs by Luna, such as “I Long”, “Little Lies”, “Can it be” and “I’ll Receive”, all which were released in 2021.
Turner is known for being a member of Sons of Trout, Mikanic and, more recently, The Misty Cliffs.
A singer-songwriter in his own right, he released his debut solo album, Home & Secure, in 2017 after returning from New York.
Turner is known for his catchy tunes, sharp and quirky lyrics. He has shared the stage with Luna since 2015, in shows such as Die Ander Konsert and the popular music theatre production Korreltjie Kantel.
