Mbekweni police arrested two men from Khayelitsha for the possession of ammunition.

Police have arrested two men travelling from Khayelitsha to Mbekweni in a taxi on Tuesday morning. The alleged suspects aged 27 and 43 were found with a 9mm gun and ammunition in their possession.

Sgt Nceba Vanqa, Mbekweni police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest took place in Jan van Riebeeck Road in Paarl. He says ammunition and one licensed 9mm firearm was seized that will be send for ballistic tests.

Vanqa also dismissed claims about an AK47 gun that was found in the taxi. A possession of ammunition case has been opened and is being investigated by Mbekweni detectives.

Yesterday Mbekweni police were on high alert after allegations emerged of a possible taxi violence attack between two taxi unions in the area.
