At their annual camp Paarl junior town councillors learnt a lot from key individuals and groups such as Emily O’Ryan, The World Needs a Father Movement, Cilmie Geyer and other community stakeholders, and one another. Unorthodox sleeping arrangements and culinary provisions provided much discomfort, but at the end of the camp the group had truly bonded and were much more aware of their privileges as well as their responsibility towards everyone in the community. Ending at Klein Nederburg Secondary with a “courageous conversation” facilitated by Dewald Scholtz. The group commuted on foot from the town hall to “Die Stoepe” and enjoyed a much deserved Gatsby, an annual highlight. If any learner currently in Grade 9 would like to join the JTC they can contact the JTC learners or linked teacher at their respective schools. Elections commence in August.
