Shadia Akter, a Grade 11 learner at New Orleans Secondary School, virtually attended this year’s Buca International Music, Science, Engineering Energy Fair (Imsef) in Turkey. She is one of two South Africans who presented their Eskom Expo for Young Scientists projects at the international fair. Shadia created an app that helps schools to screen large numbers of learners efficiently. During the Imsef awards ceremony she received a silver medal for her work.
