Another scamming trend has surfaced on local Facebook groups where injured dogs or pets are being used as bait to lure people’s money under the guise of pure intentions. In this instance, this bloody and fragile fur baby was posted on a Wellington Facebook group, which stated: “If anyone is looking for this sweet girl I found her lying on the side of the road. She was hit by a car in a hit-and-run accident. I took her to the vet. She is in a critical condition, sustained multiple fractures and on pain relief and oxygen. She is not chipped and I know someone is looking for her. Please bump this post to help find the owner.” Notice the absence of particulars like the street name where the animal is found or veterinary hospital they were supposedly taken to. Bonita Denton from Paarl Rescue Obsessed started shedding light on the possibility that these are misleading tactics used by opportunists. She shared the Tasmanian Lost Pet Register’s poster that explains it as the following: “Beware bait and switch scams! a) They (scammers) post mostly on buy and sell groups. b) They use pets and children in danger as click bait. c) They always turn off the comments on the original post. d) When they have enough shares they will change the post
