The new High School of Klapmuts was on Tuesday the beneficiary of the latest act of kindness of the Human Nature Project.
This new school opened its doors last week with the high school having 330 learners in Grades 8 and 9.
Shane Titana, founder of the Human Nature Community Project in Mbekweni, and his team visited the school on Tuesday, when they donated a number of boxes containing sanitary pads to the girls.
Teacher Thandokazi Mrhali received the donation on behalf of Klapmuts High and thanked Titana and his team for it.
This registered non-profit organisation was launched in 2019 as a sanitary-towel drive for schools in Mbekweni. Titana’s partners on the project are Asiphe Kamte, Nwabisa Mvula and Dumisani Bolani, all from Mbekweni.
He said market research showed there are many young girls who do not attend school for a certain period each monthly due to lack of access to sanitary towels.
The Human Nature Community Project is composed of individuals who believe a girl’s right to education should not be compromised because they are who they are. With this in mind they formed the organisation.
Said Titana: “Since we started we have donated more than 20 000 sanitary towels to community members and schools in Mbekweni (Langabuya Primary School, Imboniselo Primary School, Mbekweni Higher Primary, Ishlumelo Junior Secondary School and Desmond Mpilo Tutu Secondary School), Wellington (Van Wyksvlei Primary School, Wellington Primary School), Hermon (Rondeheuwel Primary School) and Stellenbosch (Vlottenburg Primary School), to mention just a few.”
Over time, he added, the group saw there was a dire need for school uniforms, shoes and stationery as well. The shocking and unhygienic state of some school toilets also caught their attention.
This Thursday they will start the renovations of toilets at Nederburg Primary School in Paarl East.
