The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) in the Boland region held its annual Men’s Health Awareness Event in Paarl’s Main Road last week. This year’s event was coordinated by Anrich Fritz, a final-year social-work student. Residents and representatives from various organisations turned out in their numbers to engage in meaningful conversation on men’s health issues and support those affected by illnesses such as prostate cancer. Throughout the event participants were able to access PSA screenings tests. A local prostate-cancer survivor shared his story of his journey with cancer that emphasised the significance of regular check-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Stanton Lewis, a local fitness trainer, together with Virgin Active, led the human chain that was formed in the middle of Main Road, where those attending took part in easy-to-do exercises.
