I would like to bring attention to the morning nightmare of trying to go to work in one-way traffic that is not abided by, especially in the early mornings every day!

Drommedaris Street has been closed, with one-way traffic, since the start of August due to water-pipe upgrades. A letter had been sent out to advise us regarding the maintenance and temporary traffic situation.

Unfortunately, of course, every second taxi and truck decided they will not abide by the new rules and frequently go against the stream/rules, adding to an already precarious traffic dilemma.

Not only are there rarely any traffic officers to assist at the intersection of Borssenberg and Jan van Riebeeck Roads, but there are no traffic officials trying to catch the culprits endangering other road users.

I am sure stationing at least one traffic officer to issue tickets would discourage many a driver from breaking the rules. Perhaps more funds could be procured for upgrading Drommedaris Street, particularly for such traffic-control purposes. The road was in dire need of repair long before the traffic flow was converged to a single lane, and with the recent rains the potholes outnumber the houses on the street probably 5 to 1.

Is anyone taking notice of all these things, or are we just on the wrong side of the train tracks to warrant any attention?

Distraught commuter,

Paarl
