David Maynier, Western Cape MEC for Education, urged matric candidates who did not pass or who did not achieve the results they had hoped for, not to give up. “You may apply for the re-marking or re-checking of your scripts if you feel that the marks you received are not a true reflection of your performance. A re-mark means that the original answer script is marked for a second time by a marker. A re-check of your script is a check to ensure that all questions are duly marked and that all marks are correctly calculated. You may apply for as many subjects to be re-marked / re-checked as you would like, with the exception of Life Orientation (as it is an internally assessed Common Assessment Task).”
Applications to re-mark or re-check must be completed online through the national government e-services by 3 February. The website link is https://www.eservices.gov.za/.
“Candidates from no-fee schools are exempt from the payment of fees for re-marking or re-checking,” Maynier added.
The following candidates qualify to write supplementary exams in May / June 2023: those who failed, who passed but want to improve their marks, and who were absent from writing one or more question papers, owing to ill-health or other unforeseen circumstances.
“You can apply to write as many subjects as you want (except Life Orientation, which is internally assessed).
“Candidates must complete their application forms at their schools (the school principal must sign the form). The application form is available from schools or to download from the WCED website. A drop-off box will be available at each district office for the submission of completed NSC registration forms. No online applications are available and the closing date is 8 February.”
More information on all of these options is available on the WCED website: https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za/exams.
