Jamie Kock of Courtrai Primary School, a 12-year-old brown-belt student of Overberg Goju-Kai, started karate at the age of 3 and has never looked back. Since 2015 he has taken part in competitions and has shown potential from day 1. He became a member of Karate South Africa (KSA) in 2017 and attended his first KSA National Competition in 2018, winning gold for kumite. He has been ranked 1 or 2 since 2018, and this year he was awarded his Protea colours when he was selected to represent South Africa at the Region South competition in May. Jamie recently travelled to Durban to compete in the KSA Children’s, Cadets and Junior Championships, coming home with gold in the Boys u-12/13 Kumite under 55 kg Division. Shihan Francois du Plessis would like to congratulate Jamie on his achievements and wishes him all the best when he travels to Durban for the Region South competition in May.
