After an absence of three years the Safari Half-marathon, with 10 km and 5 km distances, will once again take place in the picturesque town of Wellington.
This is the 33rd year that this flagship running event of Boland Athletics will be taking place in partnership with the Wellington Athletic Club and the Wellington Rapportryers.
It is anticipated that thousands of exercise conscious members of the community will be heading to Wellington to either run or walk one of the three distances on Monday 1 May.
The promoters of the event are Top Events and pre-race day preparations are currently taking place to ensure everything runs smoothly leading up to and on race day.
Numerous elite athletes from the Western Cape region as well as nationally will take part, which will also be the official Boland Athletics Championships over the half-marathon distance.
Substantial prize money is on offer to runners in both the half marathon and 10 km distances and a top-class field is expected to line up on race day.
For the non-participants there will be various food stalls on race day as well as an animal petting zoo to entertain young children. All finishers will receive a medal and there is also a live radio outside broadcast from the venue on Monday 1 May.
There are also lots of lucky draw prizes available to all participants, including Sportsmans Warehouse vouchers.
Official race T-shirts and Safari branded caps are also available to purchase online at www.topevents.co.za pre-race day.
The Drakenstein Municipality and Western Cape Government are long- standing partners and supporters of the Safari, which attracts thousands of visitors to Wellington and the surrounding areas.
All finishers in the three distances will be kept well hydrated and will receive an ice cold Liqui-Fruit when they finish their run or walk on the day.
