The potential of tourism in the Drakenstein region is huge and should be justly promoted.

Millions of visitors descend annually on South African shores, bringing with them a monetary injection of billions of rands, with the Cape Winelands drawing a healthy junk of this.

With a multitude of natural beauty, excellent wine estates and historic venues, the Drakenstein area should indeed also bite off a large chunk of this cake.

But, once again, it seems as if our region is standing at the back of the queue, with local tourism managers struggling to get their act together.

It will seem that with local tourism now lying especially in the hands of the Drakenstein Municipality we are just not moving fast enough to catch up with the tourism train.

Here in-fighting and inadequacies seem to be the order of the day, directly contributing to the fact that the area is not pulling the amount of tourists it should.

These role-players should do their utmost to lure tourists to the area with a coordinated sterling effort.

Drakenstein is in dire need of a functional tourism management unhampered by politicking and power struggles.
