Drakenstein residents should stay indoors and brace themselves for a chilly weekend as a cold front is expected to make its way to the Western Cape early on Saturday (7 June) which will continue into Monday (9 June).

The cold front will bring adverse weather, such as rain, wind and even snow, to most of the Western Cape, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) reported.

“The highest 24-hour rainfall amounts are expected on Saturday, with 10 mm to 20 mm likely over the western parts of the Western Cape, and 30 mm to 40 mm over the mountainous regions.”

“Light snowfall is also likely over the Western Cape mountains [such as the Cederberg, Koue Bokkeveld and Langeberg] and the southern high-lying areas of the Northern Cape [such as the Roggeveld].”

“As a result, the public and farmers are advised to prepare for cold very cold, wet, and windy conditions, including snowfall, very rough seas, and strong winds,” the SAWS said.
