Dining-and-dashing without paying the bill is a malicious act typically done by naughty teenagers or broke students, only to leave a minimum-wage-earning waiter to foot the bill.
In this case, however, 52-year-old suspect Pieter Jakob Prinsloo appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on two counts of theft on Tuesday.
Paarl police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis reported that Prinsloo had allegedly eaten and drank at two local restaurants in the Main Road on separate days and failed to pay the bill.
“He was arrested in one incident on Sunday, but following investigation linked him to another incident at a restaurant just metres away. The charges added up to the value of roughly R600,” Du Plessis said.
The suspect was released in court and warned to reappear on 26 June.
