Childline South Africa, a helpline for children to come into contact with a counsellor, has recently changed its toll-free number to 116.
The previous number, which many may know, was 0800 055 555. The new one is much shorter and easy to remember.
Childline is accessible 24 hours a day and free from all networks to children up to the age of 18 as well as adults that have concerns about children and enables them to contact someone to express their concerns and talk about issues directly affecting them.
Although the service provides only counselling to those who call in they do refer emergency cases to social workers of the departments of Social Development and the Police.
