This past weekend Mbekweni police officials attended to the murders of three males in the area. Two of these were the outcomes of “bundu courts”.

On Saturday (14 October) police officers were called out to Drommedaris Street around 15:05 where the body of 26-year-old Yamkela Ludidi was found near the railway tracks.

“On arrival the victim was found lying in a shallow ditch of water in an open field. His legs were tied with shoelaces and other materials. The victim’s hands were also tied behind his back,” said WO Nceba Vanqa, spokesperson for the Mbekweni police.

He related the body of the 28-year-old Makhosandile Maliti was found the following day (15 October) around 08:30 at the same location. The victim was also found lying in shallow water in the open field next to the railway tracks in Drommedaris Street.

“Police believe both these murders were the result of a bundu court,” he added.

In a separate incident Thobela Fosi (35), who resides in Mbekweni, was stabbed to death in Jan van Riebeeck Road opposite the Vlakkeland residential area.

“When the police arrived on the scene the victim was unresponsive. He had a stab wound to the left side of the neck. The victim was declared dead on the scene.”

Vanqa encouraged anyone with valuable information that can assist the police in these murder investigations to come forward and contact the Mbekweni police on 021 868 9975. For anonymous tip-offs contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
