The Paarl police station is warning the public to be cautious when using the Paarl Arboretum during the early morning or late afternoon hours.

Paarl police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said members of the public entering the arboretum on their own are being targeted and robbed.

“Members of the public are advised to make use of areas in the arboretum that are busy and also to be one or more persons together when going for a walk through the arboretum.”

She added that although patrols are done in and around the area and arrests being made, the public is still urged to be careful in the surrounding area.

This is despite the municipality’s upgrades of the arboretum which include added access control and law enforcement patrols during the day.
