The missionary Johan Marais on Tuesday (23 May) walked with a cross over his shoulder from Rawsonville to Paarl on a mission to spread the word of God. Born in Cape Town, Marais said he had walked across the Western Cape to more than 100 towns and had visited a few towns across the country. Marais added he was inspired to “take up his cross” by personally constructing one after being inspired by God. His journey on Tuesday started early in the morning at the weighbridge in Rawsonville and ended in Main Road, Paarl. Riding behind are Jacquin Schaff (on the motorcycle) and Shane Gardener (on the bicycle), both from Paarl, who had accompanied Marais throughout the day.Photo: Chantélle Hartebeest
