A bizarre attempted get-away scenario was caught on CCTV footage last week in which a suspect failed in his attempt to steal a bakkie in Northern Paarl.
According to Paarl police spokesperson, Capt Louise du Plessis, the suspect who stole a Nissan Bakkie on Thursday (20 January) at around 14:00 was caught red-handed after colliding into another vehicle shortly after stealing it.
“The suspect who was chased by the owner of the vehicle attempted to flee the area. He was arrested and appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on 24 January.”
Footage revealed the owner of the bakkie grabbing onto the tail of the vehicle while the suspect rammed over a concrete pillar before speeding into the street and colliding head-on with another vehicle.
The vehicle came to a crashing halt and the thief was immediately arrested.
