Three armed suspects pulled-off a swift heist as they fled the scene at the Dal Josaphat Test Centre next to the Jan van Riebeeck Drive with over R43 000 in cash and attending guards’ weapons on Tuesday morning.

Multiple inside sources, including police, allege that the suspects were waiting patiently inside the centre until the private cash-in-transit (CIT) security service arrived at the destination to collect the, now stolen, loot.

“The suspects were sitting inside the centre, pretending to be clients of the test centre. They were all wearing masks,” confirmed the spokesperson for Mbekweni police, WO Nceba Vanqa.

“They approached the two CIT-guards who had just received the moneybag. The guards were threatened and their weapons were taken by the suspects. They managed to flee the scene with the guards’ weapons and a cash amount of R43 240 from the traffic department,” he added.

Police and senior departmental officials of the Drakenstein Municipality attended the scene to assess the aftermath of the armed robbery.

No injuries were reported on scene. Read more updates in Thursday’s edition of the Paarl Post.
